Registration renewal
Registration renewal smog check
If your DMV renewal notice asks for a smog inspection, this is the visit that clears it.
How it works
From notice to renewal
California ties many registration renewals to a passing smog inspection. Your renewal notice tells you whether yours is one of them. If it is, the inspection has to happen before the DMV will complete the renewal.
Bring the vehicle in and we'll run the inspection that applies to it. The result is transmitted to the state electronically, so there's no certificate for you to carry across town — though we'll go through the report with you before you leave.
What to bring
- The vehicle itself
- Your DMV renewal notice, if you received one
That's all. No forms to fill in beforehand, no documents to gather.
Test-only station. We inspect vehicles and report the results. We don't perform emissions repairs, and we don't process registration, title transfers or DMV paperwork. If a vehicle needs repairs, you can take the inspection report to the repair provider of your choice.
